Year 2 Author Event at Omagh Library
This morning,Y2UC we’re lucky to be chosen to attend a morning with author and illustrator Clive McFarland
Clive agreed to facilitate some Storytime and Draw-Along during Childrens Mental Health week (5-7 Feb) which was hosted in Omagh Library.
Clive McFarland read his latest picture book ‘Standing On One Leg is Hard’, and the children discovered some fun animal facts, and learnt how to draw their very own heron chick!
Standing On One Leg is Hard tells the story of a little heron chick who is trying HARD to be like the grown-up herons who stand so gracefully on one leg. But she just CAN'T do it! Maybe she just needs a little help?
Clive McFarland was raised in Omagh, Co Tyrone so it was very special to have an homegrown author/ illustrator guiding us this morning!
He is also an author and illustrator of several other picture books, including A Bed for Bear, Caterpillar Dreams and The Fox and the Wild.
The book ‘Standing On One Leg is Hard’ was shortlisted for Children’s Book of the Year Junior at the Irish Book Awards.
The children enjoyed their morning and produced some lovely images of the little heron chick inspired by Clive.
Perhaps you can choose some of Clive’s books the next time you visit the library with your children.
