St. Conor’s Girls’ Indoor Gaelic Football Tournament
It was with great pleasure that St. Conor’s Primary School hosted the Conall Mc Crory Cup and the St. Conor’s Shield ‘Indoor Gaelic Football Girls’ 5-a-side’ competition at the Station Centre, Omagh.
The day’s action was organised into two groups. Group 1 featured St. Conor’s PS Omagh, Christ the King PS, Sacred Heart PS Tattyreagh and St. Patrick’s PS Newtownstewart. Group 2 consisted of Holy Family PS Omagh, St. Lawrence’s PS Fintona, All Saints’ PS Tattysallagh and St. Conor’s PS 2.
Following a morning of round-robin matches and a series of highly competitive semi-finals, Christ the King PS and St. Lawrence’s PS qualified for the Conall Mc Crory Cup Final. Sacred Heart PS Tattyreagh and All Saints’ PS Tattysallagh progressed to the St. Conor’s Shield Final.
In a fantastic Shield Final, All Saints’ PS Tattysallagh emerged victorious against a determined Sacred Heart side. Later, in the Conall Mc Crory Cup Final, St. Lawrence’s PS edged out a courageous and talented Christ the King team.
Our two teams competed with great skill and pride, narrowly missing out in their respective semi-finals. As always, they represented themselves and our school brilliantly.
We would like to commend all participating schools for both their excellent performances and exemplary behaviour throughout the day. Not only was the football a joy to watch, but the respect shown towards referees and fellow players was equally impressive. Well done to all involved.
Mr. Ciaran Mc Crory and Mrs. Mary Mc Crory, Conall’s parents, presented awards to the finalists in both competitions.
St. Conor’s would also like to sincerely thank the Mc Crory family for donating the Conall Mc Crory Cup in honour of Conall, a much-loved former pupil and treasured friend of the school.
A special word of thanks is extended to Dermot Moxon for his expert refereeing throughout the competition.
Finally, we express our appreciation to the helpful and efficient staff at Omagh Station Centre for their support in making the event such a success.
