Weather Watching in Year 4 with Cecilia Daly
To enhance our WAU topic Weather Watcher, local TV icon and meteorologist Cecilia Daly visited St. Conor’s.
Cecilia introduced herself to the children and showed them photographs of the TV studio and explained the many different elements needed to create a weather forecast—camera operators, autocue and script, newsreaders, lighting, directors, the gallery, and graphics.
Ceclilia reminded us that when she is presenting the forecast, she must memorise her script, stand on a specific spot, and have her graphics prepared to help her tell the story of the weather. Cecilia also showed the children satellite images and pointed out features within each image that signal how the weather is changing.
Both children and staff had the opportunity to become weather forecasters themselves, using Cecilia’s script and graphics. The future looks bright for our young meteorologists! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us, Cecilia!
