Numeracy

Mental Maths

Quick recall of number facts 11- 16 eg  10 + 1= 11,  6 + 10 = 16 Continue to ask facts using language of addition and subtraction e.g. 2 and ?? makes 13? Count on/back within 50. Ask questions like number before/after/between. Count up in 2s to 20      10s to 100           and 5’s to 50

Workbooks

Number stories 16-20 (see the 1st Home school Pack).

Complete number story for 18. Look at how we can add in different forms e.g. 10 + __ = 18 and vertical addition. Use materials to help you with your number facts eg doubles, part,part, whole (see resources in this folder for part part whole template) Use the number line to add on and take away within 18. Remember to start with the bigger number and count on.  Also use your knowledge of dubles to help you add on. Count on to 50 eg play board games such as BINGO, Snakes and Ladders to help children recognise the numbers. Call out numbers within 50 and ask your child to identify it. (see 100 Square resource)

Maths Topic-Weight

Vocabulary: - heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, lightest.

Compare two weights by direct comparison eg the apple is heavier than the pencil, the book is lighter than the bag.  The box is the heaviest.

Mathletics: - see weight activities to reinforce language and concept.

First Mental Arithmetic Book – complete 1 page per day

 

Religion

Remember to light a candle each evening and say 1 Hail Mary for your family.  Use the prayer sheet in the Covid folder to make up your own prayer to Mary.   Mary was kind and loving t others. We can also be like Mary.  Look at the Acts of Kindness in the Covid folder and pick one each day to do at home.

We have selected some books on tour topic “People Who Help Us. Have a browse and find out more about the jobs people do. Check in the

Year 2 Website folder for how to access Projects on MyON.

Writing

Write about the Picture Workbook. Choose 2 pages this week. Write a few creative sentences about the picture. Use the word bank as support. Let the children have a go sounding out or using word knowledge to record their work. Remember to: - talk to your child about each picture.

Tricky words this week are right, two see Tricky Word Book Summer 1

Use the appropriate pages in your workbook. Write sentences for the words.

Phonics

This week’s sounds are :  ss,ff,ll

Use your phonics workbook to sound out and build words with this week’s sounds. Write sentences for some of the words on the blank pages in the book. Call out some words for your child to record using the ss,ff, ll sounds.

Topic Work- People Who Help Us Workbook.

Talk about the People who help us in our community and the jobs they do. Talk about the tools they use to carry out their job. What tool do they use?

How do they use them?

Are the tools dangerous?

Choose one job and design a health and safety poster for keeping safe at work.

Check out the craft idea in the Covid folder.

Use junk material to make a vehicle that the worker uses. We’d love to see pictures of your creations so don’t forget to forward them to us.
