LITERACY

LITERACY

Talking and Listening: 

  • Read together daily.  Talk about the ‘author’ (writes the story) and ‘illustrator’ (draws the pictures)
  • Click the link to read the story ‘Mog and the Vet’ https://bit.ly/362mYOA
  • Recite 2 nursery rhymes, sing the ‘days of the week’ song and talk about the date. 
  • Discuss the role of the vet (see attachments for vet related words)

Phonics

  • Practise Jolly Phonics taught to date 
  • Introduce new sound ‘sh (ship, shoe, shed, sheep, shark)
  • Complete the worksheets to reinforce the letter sound ‘sh’.’  Colour the ‘shhh the baby is sleeping,’ sort for pictures that begin with ‘sh,’ draw something with the ‘sh’ sound.

  • Blending – Can you use the sounds you already know to look at the pictures, listen for the sounds and write the words? (*suggestion – complete 2/3 words daily* This is a skill which needs a lot of reinforcement.       Try little and often!)

Tricky Words/Key Words: 

  • Continue to practise suggested tricky word activities listed on the week beginning 20.04.2020. Remember correct letter formation. 
  • Practise Tricky Words taught to date and introduce 2 new tricky words from the second ‘Home Learning Pack if your child is secure with previous tricky words taught.
  • Worksheet to reinforce the tricky word 'put' 
  • Play a phonics or tricky word game. 

Writing

  • Write your name and practise correct letter formation for ‘sh’
  • Write the tricky words that you can read.
  • ‘Have a Go’ sentences.
  • Read and copy the sentence ‘Mum cut the beanstalk.’

Log into MY-ON and click the audio button to listen to a story.  Complete this week’s MY ON project ‘Year 1 The Vet.’ Can you get a grown up to help you type a review on one of the books?

NUMERACY

Mental Maths 

  • Orally count forwards to 20 and count backwards from 10 
  • Mental Maths recall of number before/after/1 more within 14 

REVISION OF NUMBER TO 15

  • Form the numbers 0-15 correctly 
  • Use the number line to recognise numbers within 15 
  • Worksheets to support number to 15 – How many altogether? and write the numbers that comes before and after.
  • Continue to practise suggested number activities listed the week beginning 20.04.2020. Remember correct numeral formation. 

ADDITION TO 10

  • E.g. Make a book of 14, See ‘Counting and Learning to 20’ attached 20.04.20 and practise correct formation of numbers to 14 
  • Continue to reinforce the concept of addition. Read the number sentence correctly e.g. 2+3=5 - two add three equals five
  • Worksheets to support addition – Cut and Stick and Write the Sums

WEIGHT 

  • Recognise HEAVY and LIGHT
  • Recognise HEAVIER and LIGHTER

MATHLETICS: Well done to everyone on their Mathletics achievements this week!

Remember to log on and complete some of the activities.  Can you reach 1000 points?

WAU

The Vet

Following a discussion about the role of the vet (see attached documents for ideas), can you draw a picture about the work of a vet e.g. What does a vet do? What does a vet use to help them with their job?  Perhaps an adult will help you write a sentence about your picture.

Time Capsule

We hope you enjoyed creating some things last week for your time capsule. This week we suggest you

  • Get a grown up to help you measure how tall you are by using a piece string
  • Collect some coins for you time capsule
  • Put in a local newspaper

You can make a little scrap book or store the pages in a box – you can decide on your special place!
