Home Learning

Sun 31st May 2020

Hi Parents,

In this last few weeks of term, you will find a different format to the Weekly Schedule.

We know that you are probably enjoying the fine weather and that there can be less structure to the home/school day.

Indeed, we totally want you and the kids to be outside as much as possible- learning and appreciating the world around us.

For this reason, we will suggest a booklet to choose each week in Numeracy and Literacy and suggest you work through part of it each week. You don’t have to complete the work in each book entirely as there will be plenty of opportunity in the rainy summer days where you can refer your child to the books to complete work.

Hope all this makes sense and you are happy enough to follow a less structured approach!!

We have also included some ideas for water play through capacity activities. Sand play also fulfils these learning opportunities and are great activities for completing in the outdoors.

So keep healthy and safe and enjoy the last few weeks of home/school term.

Take care

Mrs Canavan & Mrs Fyffe

NB SOME OF THIS WEEK’S WORK RELATES TO THE BOOKLETS IN THE LAST HOME/SCHOOL PACK

Numeracy

Mental Maths

Practice quick recall of facts up to 20. Continue to ask facts using language of addition and subtraction.

Call out numbers within 100 for your child to record. Make it into a bingo game for all the family.

• Use the 100 square below to locate numbers from 1-100  eg find 36.... count on 2, count back. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

While out and about, count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Start with forward counting and then try counting backwards within 100.

• Complete any work from previous pack on addition and subtraction within 20. Use practical materials, number line, mental recall and patterns in numbers to help with the answers.

Find the Difference/How many more Booklet (from previous pack)

Use counters, Lego pieces ( everyday materials at home) to make 2 sets. Ask the questions “Which set is bigger? How many more is in this set etc?” line the 2 sets of counters up and observe how many more there between the 2 sets.. (another way for subtracting). Record how many more between 2 sets or numbers in the booklet. Reinforce the concept of how many more? in the NHM Subtraction book pgs 28 and 29.
