Literacy

Talking and Listening: 

  • Read together daily.  Talk about the ‘author’ and ‘illustrator’
  • Recite 2 nursery rhymes, sing the ‘days of the week’ song and talk about the date. 
  • Read the story Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Refer to the page with 4 pictures of the Goldilocks story. Discuss the pictures and sequence them in the correct order to retell the story of ‘Goldilocks.’

Phonics

  • Practise Jolly Phonics taught to date 
  • Blending – Use your sounds to read the words and write them under the correct picture (This is a skill which needs a lot of reinforcement.  Try little and often!)
  • Use your sounds to write the CVC words.

Tricky Words/Key Words: 

  • Practise Tricky Words taught to date and introduce 2 new tricky words from the second ‘Home Learning Pack if your child is secure with previous tricky words taught.
  • Worksheet to reinforce the tricky word ‘my’ 
  • Play Pack G Literacy game. 

Writing

  • Continue to write your name and the phonics/tricky words that you can read.
  • Worksheet - Finish the sentence ‘The man has a bag.’

Reading

  • Read the speed sounds, green word and red words in ‘Ditty 2:tag’
  • Once you complete ‘my worksheet, read the sentences.

MY-ON

Log into MY-ON and click the audio button to listen to a story.  Complete this week’s MY ON project ‘Year 1 Bears.’ 

Mathematics 

Mental Maths 

  • Orally count forwards to 20 and count backwards from 10 
  • Mental Maths recall of number before/after/1 more/1 less within 15 

PATTERNS

  • Talk about the patterns and cut out the pictures to complete the patterns.

INTRODUCTION TO SUBTRACTION

  • Introduce the process of taking away using practical materials e.g. toy cars, dolls, teddies etc and talk about the process.       5 cars take away 2 cars leaves 3 cars, 4 forks take away 1 fork leaves 3 forks
  • Sing rhymes which involve taking away -       5 Speckled frogs, 5 Little Monkeys, 5 Little ducks.
  • Worksheets to support subtraction –‘Put on cakes’ (cut out the cakes at the top of the page to support the concept of taking away) and ‘Put on 4 counters’ (use pasta or coins for this activity)

CAPACITY

  • Talk about ‘full,’ ‘half full’ and ‘empty.’ Use empty containers to help you fill and pour whilst exploring capacity. Fill cups, teapots, buckets etc and pour from one to another. Click https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ and view lesson 3 ‘Introduce capacity and volume.’

MATHLETICS: Well done to everyone on their Mathletics achievements this week!

WAU - Bears

• Refer to ‘Bear facts’ last week. Draw your favourite bear and copy the name of the bear. Remember to include the habitat and diet if your preferred bear. Ask an adult to help you write a sentence about your favourite bear.
